What is Mindfulness?
The Present Moment is the only place where time has no bearing. It is the here and now. It is the link between the past and the future. It is the only point in our lives that is available to us.
Ever since you were born, your life unfolds in each present moment. As each present moment passes it creates the past. Moments yet to come are the future. Your mind has the ability (which can also be an impairment) to jump constantly from the present to the past, then to the future back to the present and so on. This can lead to remorse (about the past) or worries (about the future). Both the past and the future are imaginary. Reality can only be found in the present moment
Mindfulness is to pay attention with purpose in the present moment without making any judgement. It is a way to live in each present moment fully and less in the past or future.
Mindfulness is a state of being fully present. Mindfulness is the antidote to the mind’s tendency to be lost in preoccupation (past and future) which separates it from your body (which is always present).
Mindfulness can be cultivated and after doing so allows you to live fully in the present moment.
The purpose of Mindfulness
Stops us from automatically reacting to becoming thoughtfully responsive
Stops avoidance patterns through present moment living
Allows us to meet the present moment and experience it as it is
Stops the fight, freeze or flight tendencies of the mind
Allows us to fully inhabit in the present moment
Allows us to see the true fleeting nature of the mind
Live an enriched life by enjoying and being immersed in even the most mundane of activities
